David's World Cup Pool
| THE POOL IS CLOSED | BUT ALL CAN COMMENT | |
|---|---|---|
| Yet to catch World Cup Fever? Immune to it? Or, are you over-obsessed with one team (like me)? All you need is some vested interest in a few countries and you'll be painting your face, dancing the salsa and sweating to death--and not because of those smelly polyester replica jerseys, but because your team is 1-nil down in the 93rd minute!
Here's the deal: choose 5 teams that you're going to support throughout the tournament. Every time one of your teams wins or draws you get points (the fine print is here). You can check the Leader Board over on the left to see how you're doing. |
At the end of the tournament I'll be sending the winner of the Pool . . . something. I'm thinking an original piece of art from a young and upcoming painter--something that can only grow in value. Oh, and you'll be feted to the high heavens on facebook. It'll be like you've won the World Cup.
So if you want to play, here's what you do:

1. If you haven't already you need to either CREATE AN ACCOUNT or, if you already have, LOGIN. If you want just click on Facebook connect and you can use your facebook account to access this site.
2. If you're already logged in CLICK HERE and fill in all the boxes. Or click on "My 5 Teams" over on the left. That's it. Free to play. No strings attached. No sales agents will call. Just for the love of joga bonito
You can come back and change your picks if you like--as long as you do it before 10:00 E.S.T., June 11th.
Feel free to invite friends to join in too; if you've logged in through Facebook you can use the "Invite friends" link over on the left.
Bonne Chance!
And drink Coca Cola:

Also thanks to all - you made World Cup watching much more bearable here in the US. Congrats to Bea, she definitely was better than the Octopus. In 4 years in Brazil, the game will be much different, because - so I learned - the grass is much different; the CarefulMedia World Cup poolsters will have to figure this in. I would suggest another award for Masterpick: Best International Culinary Exposure - after all, he wanted to schnapps me, bratwurst me, and - probably - would have continued stripping me of my lederhosen, put them on and dance flamenco!

The way things are going both Germany and England will be lucky to finish second in their groups, so they'll miss playing each other anyway.

Commenting 5 times during the game?! I might be too nervous for that; but, then again, a cornucopia of good luck might do it - I will spend the game online. Ghana has to play too, it should be a great game!!! I think it would be fabulous, if Germany and England meet in the next round, it should be one for the history books (LOL: Capello's glasses will be foggy).

Welcome alphorn!
As much as it will pain me to wish luck on a German team, yes, by all means comment during the match (5 times seems to be about the optimal number) and you will be granted a cornucopiia --or at least of vuvuzela -- of good luck.

welcome SempreBrasil! glad you could join us! i love the high heels critique. in england they call it "handbags" when players push each other around without coming to real blows. hand bags and high heels would add a lovely drag element to this tourney.
I am learning to navigate
I am learning to navigate through the Carefulmedia site! Okay, the Brazilian media says that a win is always a win, but the Brazilian team needs to do much more! The big wonder is why Kaka was selected to play - it seems that he is injured/not fit. I told David earlier that Kaka was playing with "high heels" and delaying the whole team. Let's hope that we have a better game on Sunday. Go Brasil, to the Hexa!

i have not mentioned the war! nor would i. and i deleted a facebook post this morning from a certain poolster that, while quite funny, would perhaps be considered offensive to some. bring on the old rivalries! but it's strictly ballroom in here, no handbags!
Don't mention the war....
Don't mention the war.... Does anyone else find that the German team is always described as "efficient", "disciplined" or playing like a "well-oiled machine"? Do they really play more like that then other teams, or is this just more World Cup cultural stereotyping.
