WORLD CUP 2010, The Final Blog
Wow CarefulMedia! Even though my family relocated to the Southern part of Brasil - I am still a Manauara! Yes, Manaus would be a nice place to visit and experience the WC in the Vivaldão stadium, maybe even try one of the famous jungle lodges (Anavilhanas is a good one). One thing is certain: you will find very unique culinary delights (our fresh-water fishes -Tambaqui, Jaraqui, Pirarucu... our one-of-a kind fruits açaí, graviola, ingá, burití, cupuaçu...); a trip to the "meeting-of-the-waters" and the Manaus Opera-house would also be a must! I am geting so hungry and so homesick... better stop thinking about Manaus! There is still time until 2014 for planning - GO BRASIL to the HEXA!

We will be there in Brasil!! And so will the Pool! Who knows what technology will be availble by then to make the Pool even better.
We're thinking of doing the Northern venues (Fortaleza, Natal, Recife, maybe Manaus) but would love suggestions!

Masterpick, who are you?

Also thanks to all - you made World Cup watching much more bearable here in the US. Congrats to Bea, she definitely was better than the Octopus. In 4 years in Brazil, the game will be much different, because - so I learned - the grass is much different; the CarefulMedia World Cup poolsters will have to figure this in. I would suggest another award for Masterpick: Best International Culinary Exposure - after all, he wanted to schnapps me, bratwurst me, and - probably - would have continued stripping me of my lederhosen, put them on and dance flamenco!

CarefulMedia: thank you so much for all the fun! Unfortunately (thanks to Alphorn), I missed the deadline for participating in the pool – but to be able to join you guys to talk about soccer and more was priceless. Too bad we are geographically very far apart – otherwise we would have joined you for the face-to-face party as well – it seems it was a blast! It will be difficult to wait for another four years, I guess we need to find another type of World Championship to continue to have fun on-line :-)! Concerning MP (aka Masterpick)… I will give him my vote for the most Popular/funny contributor to the World Cup pool – by the way WHO is Masterpick???
P.S. I guess in four years we need to think about having a CarefulMedia caravan to Brasil to watch the WC and to see Brasil receive the HEXA at home - AVANTE BRASIL 2014! -

Amazing-
Star-studded event of the summer! And of course, All Hail David! Thanks so much for your social refereeing. Hosting this site, providing air-conditioned viewing, lots of fantastic commenting & tactical advice, a night of endless sangria: you get the Golden Goblet of World Cup 2010!! Thanks so much for your many kinds of generosity, and all the time you've donated to our communal pleasure.
Speaking of which, of course we must give the award for Football Widow of the Decade: the saintly and beatific Bronwen!! Thanks so much for putting up with David thoughout all this.
Kisses to everyone, especially Masterpick, who tragically finished so much lower than most of us.
"Soccer is a sport perfectly designed to reinforce a tragic view of the universe, because basically it is a long series of frustrations leading up to near certain heartbreak."

Match 64
I am delecosse
I just got back in town from a trip yesterday and I am absolutely devastated to have lost to David's daughter. I am though kind of excited to have achieved a level of infamy on this site.
I am a friend of Carlo Cesta's and I like Dundee United and Scotland. One team in orange won something this year!
The blog on Argentina / Germany was superb!
Cheers,
Derek

Match 64
Beatriz is going to give that octopus a run for his money...
Cracking website, David. It provided an overall shape to this World Cup. They should make you FIFA's soccer ambassador in North America. -
Match 64
Congratulations to Beatriz! Thanks David for so much fun. Now what am I going to do to procrastinate?
-
Match 64
What da ya mean?! Women's World Cup next year!!!!
BIG UP TO BEATRIZ, POOL CHAMPION!!!! PICTURES SOON!!!

Match 64
After five hours in a dark bar and as many slowly-nursed beers, emerging into the sunlit, honking street was a shock. Why am I wearing orange socks? I can't believe it is all over. Thank you, carefulmedia, for making it all happen. See you in four years.

Match 64
sweet goal for Spain. Finally!
-
Match 64
Robben will regret that miss for the rest of his life. I hope.
-
Match 64
Hmm I wonder where I saw Robben blow a shot just like that before?
-
Match 64
I wonder if every player on the field will get a yellow before this is over?
-
Match 64
Gotta love Ramos - though Robben has some sweet moves for sure.
-
Match 64
That was a crazy moment. Spain aren't being allowed to pass though, so credit the Dutch.
-
Match 64
Really, the Spanish are so much more fun to watch than the Dutch. How the hell do they get away with kicking someone in the chest? Is the ref afraid of red cards? Please!
-
Match 64
An incredibly violent start followed by a whole lotta boredom.
